Prologue 5: Are you contagious?

During some high-level negotiations the team was sent by EVO to protect, things started to go wrong. An unknown adversarial team has infiltrated the hotel. Micah’s seen the invaders in the astral. Casandra is staging a strategic retreat back to the team after investigating the carnage of the opponent’s breach point. Catherine is trying her best to get the unwilling and bulky principle to leave the negotiation to get to a more defensible position. Jean-Baptiste has managed to get a message through the noise out to their car as well as their EVO response team. Finally, Micah is heading to meet the team via the employee back hallways.

The team has been asked to keep their boss Mr. Garrow safe and sound during a high-level negotiation with the UCAS diplomats. They’ve checked out the venue ahead of the meeting, and having discovered some unsettling things about recent history there, are ready to actually have the meeting go down. We join the team as they arrive at the motorpool a bit late to head to the meeting…

Prologue 3: That sounds like a good way to get slapped

Originally published as a Patreon-only episode on 2020-04-13.

Previously, on Burning Edge. It’s still Friday, January 5th, 2080. The team started their recon job at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Conference Center. Cat left a bag of what she claims are clothes in the meeting room while she and Cassandra checked out the tactical situation. Chatting with the friendly neighborhood bartender Micah found out about some disturbances there recently, but matrix security and pudding made further research in that area untenable for Jean-Baptiste. They’ve decided to split up to talk to some management at the hotel. Jean-Baptiste and Micah will try to track down Darrin Summers, the head of security, while Cat and Cassandra have a chat with Vincent Santos, the head of housekeeping.

Prologue 2: Finish your fraggin’ tapioca pudding

Originally published 2020-03-09 as a Patreon-only backstory episode.

It’s Friday, January 5th, 2080. The team had a meeting with EVO’s head of security, Raine Davis. Negotiations between the UCAS and EVO are wrapping up, and Chuck Garrow, Vice President of Acquisitions for the United Canadian and American States is being sent to a five-star hotel to sign the treaty. EVO has some fairly reliable intel that both Ares Macrotechnology and the Shiawase Corporation would like to see the treaty signing ceremony not happen quite as planned. The Burning Edge crew has decided to go check out the meeting room ahead of time to get the lay of the land. After valeting their car “Steve”, they enter the Ritz-Carlton’s lobby.

Prologue 1: Of course I will tap into the cameras while I’m in the buffet line

As part of winding down the Burning Edge podcast, here’s the first backstory recording.

This episode starts with a corporate security team getting a briefing about an assignment they’ll need to take on. Jean-Baptiste, Catherine, and Micah have been on this team for several years now, acting as the security squad for Chuck Garrow, a Vice President at EVO. At some point in the distant past, the team had an assignment go sideways, and several team members were killed in action. That is a story we may tell at some point in the future, but the specifics are not important at this point. Re-staffing their Special Security Detail has been difficult, mainly because working with Mr. Garrow is exceptionally difficult. They were able to replace one of their fallen teammates with Cassandra Miller, a human weapons specialist.
