Prologue 2: Finish your fraggin’ tapioca pudding

Originally published 2020-03-09 as a Patreon-only backstory episode.

It’s Friday, January 5th, 2080. The team had a meeting with EVO’s head of security, Raine Davis. Negotiations between the UCAS and EVO are wrapping up, and Chuck Garrow, Vice President of Acquisitions for the United Canadian and American States is being sent to a five-star hotel to sign the treaty. EVO has some fairly reliable intel that both Ares Macrotechnology and the Shiawase Corporation would like to see the treaty signing ceremony not happen quite as planned. The Burning Edge crew has decided to go check out the meeting room ahead of time to get the lay of the land. After valeting their car “Steve”, they enter the Ritz-Carlton’s lobby.

Prologue 1: Of course I will tap into the cameras while I’m in the buffet line

As part of winding down the Burning Edge podcast, here’s the first backstory recording.

This episode starts with a corporate security team getting a briefing about an assignment they’ll need to take on. Jean-Baptiste, Catherine, and Micah have been on this team for several years now, acting as the security squad for Chuck Garrow, a Vice President at EVO. At some point in the distant past, the team had an assignment go sideways, and several team members were killed in action. That is a story we may tell at some point in the future, but the specifics are not important at this point. Re-staffing their Special Security Detail has been difficult, mainly because working with Mr. Garrow is exceptionally difficult. They were able to replace one of their fallen teammates with Cassandra Miller, a human weapons specialist.

Burning Edge Interview on Out of Character

We’re still trying to record to get the second season ready to go, but sometimes life gets in the way. During one of our sessions neither Omni or Tempest could make a session. Jupiter jumped at the opportunity to get some content recorded for Out of Character (part of the Without a Net podcast media empire). Deuce, Jean-Baptiste, and Cassandra put aside the characters they play for a bit to talk out of character with Jupiter.

They chat about a bunch of topics: character motivation, playing a RPG for release as a podcast versus just playing with friends, and their favorite moments during season one.

Episode 1.22: Tufts and Tails

The team managed to successfully plant a data chip on their target to ruin her new career as a politician while saving some food from a protest. Catherine had to be carried from the casino after she inexplicably passed out right before finishing the job. We now rejoin the team in their Americar, getting ready to leave the scene.

Episode 1.21: The house always wins

Slide is looking to ruin a local mayoral candidate that has been making his organization’s life hell as a local crime fighter, and tasked our team to plant incriminating evidence on her to make that happen. The target, Jeanine Magliano, is holding a campaign event on one of St. Louis’s iconic riverboat casinos. The team has infiltrated the riverboat, got a device planted to potentially mess with the electrical system, covertly transferred the datachip from one member of the team to another, and yeah, did a little bit of drinkin’ and gamblin’. We now rejoin Micah, who’s doing astral overwatch over the riverboat.

Our eagle-eared listeners might notice a continuity error. Feel free to bring it up in the Discord, and let Omni know you’re disappointed in him.

Episode 1.20: Perfectly natural for me to be completely nude

It’s still Monday, January 15th 2080. We continue the casino job to plant data on local political candidate Jeanine Magliano. The team has split up into three groups. Deuce and Catherine posed as employees and entered through the employee entrance. Jean-Baptiste and Thumper appear as a happy couple there for the drinkin’, the gamblin’, and the hobnobbin’ with the elite. Micah’s on astral overwatch and is probably a pack of cigarettes into her evening at this point.

Episode 1.19: I hate to give him credit

The team gets another job from their mob boss wannabe fixer involving one of St. Louis’s iconic riverboat casinos. A local Knight Errant police chief Jeanine Magliano is gearing up for a mayoral run, and is having a campaign fundraiser. It’s a 5000 nuyen a plate black tie affair so I’m sure the team will fit right in. The job sounds simple enough, plant a datachip set to broadcast a theft notice when Jeanine leaves the casino so she can get publicly arrested by Lone Star. Instead of casino property, the officers will find a data chip containing highly compromising information on Mrs. Magliano. It’s Monday, January 15th, 2080. The team spent the weekend planning their daring casino heist and doing legwork. Time to find out if all of their planning was for naught as the team rolls up to Harrah’s Riverboat Casino.

Episode 1.18: Stumpy is waiting at home

It’s January 12th 2080. After completing their first job for Slide, the team went back to their apartments, only to find out that local law enforcement had uncovered the carnage, leaving the team once again homeless. The need for new fake SINs has intensified so the team needs to get on with the second job from Slide. The team has journeyed back to Slide’s lair for him to act as a Mr. Johnson once again, and we join them now with Slide on his makeshift throne holding court in front of the team…
